Armour Home Improvements has completed a full window and door replacement at Logan Primary School in Cumnock for East Ayrshire Council. The project took around four weeks from start to finish and was completed over July and August, ready for pupils returning after the summer holidays.

We won the work through East Ayrshire Council’s competitive tender, against other contractors. It was one of our largest projects this year: around 45 windows and doors in total, including 40 new double glazed VEKA windows, along with new render and new sills. Here is what the work involved and how our team delivered it on time.

What we replaced at Logan Primary School

The brief covered the whole of the school’s window and entrance package:

  • 40 windows replaced with new double glazed VEKA uPVC windows
  • New aluminium entrance doors for the main entrance, the gym hall and the kitchen
  • The old render removed and the walls re-rendered
  • All-new concrete sills fitted beneath the windows

Doing the render and sills alongside the windows meant the school got a complete, finished look rather than new windows set into tired surroundings.

A careful survey and a fixed deadline

A school is a very different job from a house. There were around 45 windows and doors to measure, the building had to be ready on a set date, and there was no room for an order to arrive wrong.

That is why so much effort went into the survey. Two of our team surveyed the school together, so every window and door was measured and specified correctly before anything was ordered.

The deadline was simple: the school had to be ready for pupils coming back after the summer holidays. Our fitters completed the full job, from removing the old windows to finishing the render, in around four weeks.

Secured by Design windows with laminated toughened glass

Every window we fitted at Logan Primary is Secured by Design, the UK police’s official security initiative. The windows also use laminated toughened glass: toughened for extra strength, and laminated so it holds together if it is broken rather than shattering. For a school, both matter: security for the building and safety for the children inside it.

We used VEKA window systems throughout. As VEKA approved installers, we fit the same systems in homes across Ayrshire.

Frequently asked questions

Do you replace windows and doors for schools and commercial buildings in Ayrshire?
